This is the Queen Isabella Causeway, photographed at sunset on Friday March 8, 2002. The 2.5 mile long bridge connects South Padre Island with the mainland. On September 15, 2001, a section of the bridge collapsed after a barge collided into the bridge. Eight people died. The bridge was repaired and reopened a few months later. An estimated 150,000-175,000 spring breakers will cross the bridge to South Padre Island during the month of March each year..Star-Telegram/Khampha Bouaphanh
